All good things must come to an end, this is clearly not a contending year.

Didnt we have 9 days to prep for this game? Getting burned 4 or 5 times is ridiculous, and its not like the burning a rookie there burning Campbell and Parker who are capable of playing good def. A player that i simply cant stand anymore is Duval. He has to kick the ball out of bounds at least twice a game and miss at least 2 field goals a game. We definately need to find someone that can start pushing him a bit. I think, he thinks that he's untouchable being married to Smith's daughter. I think Trestman doesnt even care for him anymore, any other coach would of went for that 53 yarder instead of Calvillo wasting his arm.

Somebody should remind Watkins that the game started at 7:00 pm EST. He's been atrocious, dropped two perfectly catchable balls, including one that would have likely gotten us into FG range for Duval at the end of the half. Ditto Richardson. I don't know where his head's at, but right now, all he's good for is going offside at crucially inopportune times.

And yet again, WHERE IS AVON? Why aren't we pounding the ball against a defense missing two of its starting D-linemen?

Duval is just crap, I'm so sick of him effing up and getting a free pass because he's married to the boss's daughter.

If the coaches can't make adjustments on both sides of the ball for the second half, it will confirm that this season is not a contending season.

You'd think we'd be trying to jam Campbell at the line. Do something to prevent him from free releases down the seam putting our halfbacks in a chase position all game long. Burke has them playing like bitches.

Shows how much we suck, 2 pass interference calls back to back and to make things worse Bowman down.

Well, they got lucky. They played a strong fourth quarter and finally came up with plays instead of laying back and letting Edmonton slap them around like bitches. But I am far from convinced that our defense is on the right track. Parker and Brown have to man up. They were shutdown halfbacks last season. This season? Two games in a row they've been torched.

They left Brown and Parker in man to man defense most of the game against Ray and two of the best receivers in the league. This is a coaching error. The lack of pressure well that's a whole other story...

That's a good point. I don't know why it took Burke until the middle of the third quarter to switch to zone. We were getting killed from the first quarter on. Ray had phenomenal touch on those deep balls, Campbell and Stamps were getting free releases off the line, it was open season on our secondary.

The pressure? Well, it's definitely a concern. Bowman doesn't look good this year. I don't know what he did in the offseason, but he isn't playing like the 2009 Bowman who got after quarterbacks relentlessly. Our blitz timing is not good, and our blitzes aren't getting there. Edmonton was able to pick up our blitzes pretty easily. Whether that's player timing or Burke not disguising his blitz packages or a combination, I don't know, but we need to get better on that front. I was happy to see us finally put some pressure on Ray in the fourth quarter, though.

I noticed a player with number 1 and Banks on our defensive team. Will someone tell me who is this guy ? There was a Cory Banks with BC- is this 1 that Cory Banks? He played on the defensive team this evening. Please advise.

No, Korey Banks is still in BC. This is Jon Banks, a linebacker who's drawing in because of the injury to Diamond Ferri.

Burke has explicitly stated in today's Gazette that the DBs, Brown and Parker in particular, need correcting on their technique:

“I don’t want to say we were mismatched,” Burke said. “But our technique was poor.”

With a short week and only one practice scheduled before Friday’s game at Vancouver, Burke’s planning plenty of film review for his beleaguered defensive backs. “We have to correct their technique, or where there eyes are,” he explained.

Interesting that Burke thinks the problem lies with what Brown and Parker are seeing on the field. Possibly this explains why they have been beaten repeatedly on seam patterns and haven't been able to make good adjustments? Personally, I feel that both men need to be a lot more aggressive at the LOS. Get in the receiver's face, jam him up. If he gets a step on you and beats you cleanly, well, them's the breaks, but odds are the press coverage at the line will disrupt the route for that half-second needed to throw off the QB's timing on the deep ball, particularly if we're blitzing and he has to unload in a hurry.

Not surprising. We have been horrendous at pressuring the quarterback. We had something of an excuse against Saskatchewan, because Durant is very mobile and hard to contain in the pocket. Against an immobile pocket-passer like Ray, though, we didn't register our only sack of the game until the middle of the fourth quarter. That's pathetic for this defense.

McElveen has done some good work, and Anwar never stops hustling, but Eric Wilson, John Bowman, and the rest of the bunch have to elevate their play in a serious way.
